Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, but if you are cooking and entertaining a high number of guests, you will have the subsequent mess and upheaval that will need to be taken care of.
Here are 5 tips to speed clean your home over Christmas:
#1 Don’t Put it Off
Sometimes seeing a dirty and cluttered home can be enough to turn you in the opposite direction in favour of forgetting that it even exists. But, the best way to keep on top of your cleaning over the festive period is by keeping on top of it. We suggest that you do a little an often, so that you’re not left with a massive amount of work after everyone leaves.
#2 Use the Kids
Outsourcing parts of your cleaning efforts to your children can be a great way to get more done in a shorter amount of time. Although your kids, depending on their age, may not be able to handle chemicals and cleaning equipment, you can at least get them to load the dishwasher, tidy their rooms and pick up any mess around the house.
This will give you more time to focus on the more serious tasks.
#3 Declutter
Getting rid of unnecessary items, objects and even presents will give you the space and focus you need to tackle those hard to reach dirty areas. Our homes can become laden with wrapping paper, Sellotape and all sorts of mess over Christmas, so it’s best to get rid of this straight away before getting down to the nitty gritty cleaning tasks.
#4 Play Christmas Music
Studies show that music can help our brains to release endorphins, which often manifest as pleasant feelings that we enjoy having. We suggest that you whack on the Christmas tunes and turn your cleaning frenzy into a Christmas party. That way, you may even encourage other family members to join in!
#5 Relax!
At the end of the day, a messy home over Christmas is not the end of the world. Christmas is a time to be enjoyed and it is more important to spend quality time with friends and family than it is to make sure the house is clean.
